Indexed universal life (IUL)

Life insurance with cash value linked to a market index.

An IUL is life insurance first. Answer a few short questions about your goals and budget. One licensed agent then explains how it works, what it costs and whether it really fits you.

  • One licensed agentYour answers go to one agent, not a call list.
  • Licensed in your stateThe agent who calls is licensed where you live.

Life insurance firstYour family receives the payout as long as the policy stays in force.
Index-linked cash valueInterest credited to the cash value follows an index like the S&P 500, up to a cap.

What an IUL can do

Protect your family

First of all an IUL is life insurance. The payout goes to the people you name.

Build cash value over time

The cash value can grow when the index rises, up to the cap of your plan. Nothing beyond the floor is guaranteed.

Use the cash value later

You can borrow against the cash value. Loans lower the payout and can have tax effects if the policy ends.

Compare

IUL vs. whole life

Both are permanent life insurance. They build cash value in different ways.

Is it right for me?

Is an IUL right for you?

An IUL fits people who think long term, have their basics covered and can keep paying.

A good fit

  • You want life insurance and long-term cash value
  • You can keep up steady payments for many years
  • Your basic coverage and savings are already in place

Probably not for you

  • You don’t yet get the full employer match on your 401(k)
  • You can’t keep paying for at least 10 years
  • You may need the money within 5 years
  • You still carry expensive debt like credit cards

Who we are

We help you sort it out. A licensed agent does the rest.

We are not an insurance company. Do-It, be insured is a small team that explains the different kinds of life insurance in plain words and connects you with a licensed agent in your state.

When you finish the quiz, we pass your answers to one licensed agent. We don’t sell your request to a list of callers. The agent explains your options and the real price. You decide.

You won’t find star ratings or customer reviews on this page. We are new, and we only show what is real.

Dewey, our clay dog, is our mascot. He is not an agent and not a customer.

FAQ

Questions people ask before they start

Is an IUL an investment?

No. It is life insurance. Your money is not invested in the stock market. The insurer credits interest based on how an index performs, within a cap and a floor.

Can I lose money with an IUL?

The floor protects against index losses, but fees and the cost of insurance still come out of the cash value. If the cash value runs too low, the policy can end. Your agent shows you the guaranteed and non-guaranteed numbers side by side.

I already have an IUL and I’m not sure about it. Can you help?

Tell us in the quiz. The agent can look at your policy with you and explain your options. Don’t cancel anything before you understand what it costs to leave.

What are caps and participation rates?

The cap is the most interest you can get in a year. The participation rate is the share of the index gain you get. Insurers can change both over time.

Who will contact me?

One licensed insurance agent who is licensed in your state. They call you on the phone number you enter. We do not sell your request to a list of callers. If you no longer want to be contacted, tell the agent and they will stop.

Are you an insurance company?

No. Do-It, be insured does not sell insurance and does not give financial advice. We help you sort out which kind of coverage fits and connect you with a licensed agent. The agent works with insurance companies and explains the plans and prices.
